Deposition summaries and exhibit indexes for small litigation firms, ready the morning after

Overview

Problem

A single day of deposition produces 250 to 400 transcript pages, and litigation boutiques still pay paralegals or outside vendors US$2–4 a page to summarise them. Summaries arrive a week later, page-line citations are often wrong, and partners end up rereading the full transcript the night before a motion is due.

Solution

Corbel ingests transcripts and exhibits as soon as the court reporter delivers them and produces a page-line summary, a topic index and a list of admissions mapped to the claims in the complaint. Every statement links to the exact transcript line, and attorneys can ask follow-up questions across all depositions in a matter.

Target market

US litigation firms of 5 to 150 lawyers, roughly 30,000 firms, plus insurance defence panels that take many depositions a month and are pressed on cost by carriers.

Business model

Subscription at US$190 a month per attorney with paralegal seats free, plus US$0.20 per transcript page above 10,000 pages a month.

Founder-market fit you rarely see in legal software

Rachel spent twelve years taking and defending depositions, so small choices, like mapping admissions to specific counts rather than writing generic summaries, come naturally to her team. Growth is almost entirely referral-driven, which is unusual for a seed-stage legal product. The per-page usage fee lines up neatly with how firms already budget for summaries.

A task firms already pay for, done overnight

Starting with deposition summaries is narrow, but it is a task firms already pay outside vendors for, so the budget exists. Insurance defence panels could be a big second channel given their volumes. Practice management integration is the gap; attorneys will not keep a second tool open all day.

    Reply from Rachel Okonkwo-Hart, CEO

Agreed, that's the first line of our use of funds. Two integrations are in beta with customer firms now.

Every summary line links back to the transcript

What struck me is that every line in the summary links back to the transcript and the team publishes its citation audit monthly. Attorneys I spoke to trusted it because they could check it in one click. Scanned exhibits from older cases still need cleanup before they index well.

    Cross-deposition questions are the standout

Plenty of tools summarise a single transcript. Asking who knew about a safety alert across five witnesses and getting cited passages back in seconds is a different level of usefulness. My main question is how it handles very long expert depositions with dense exhibits, which the team says is next on their list.

    Reply from Rachel Okonkwo-Hart, CEO

Expert depositions are exactly where we are spending this quarter, including exhibit-heavy days over 500 pages. We will share results when they're ready.
